POEM: FELA by EMINI MEMO

FELA

Fela is an icon, legend and a great man
Protecting the masses from political thieves like a gateman

His lyrics, beat and style was different
He was a threat to any government

To some, his style looks local
But yet his music traveled global

Many upcoming and established artists want to be like him
They want to be remembered like this musical tycoon

They only copy him in terms of women, weed and wine
They have forgotten the many times he put his life on the line

They forgot the messages he passed in his songs
That made his songs to be on everyone's tongue

They forgot that he was always fighting and orienting the people
Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, tall, short, fit and the crippled

Fela was a Taliban musician
He was a lyrical magician

He promoted his brand, music and culture
Some believed he saw the future

Because till date his songs are still relevant
He stood tall like a giant or elephant

Our dear musicians and artists
With tremendous musical gift, voice, skill and tactics

Please use it for the benefit of the masses
Fight for us against the political classes

Fela is majorly remembered for the good he did
Not for the women, wine and weed

Fighting for the masses was the good he did
Not the designers or the wealth accumulated by greed

We are tired of songs about banana cassava and dorobucchi
We are tired of seeing your exotic cars, houses, Prada and Gucci

If Fela can stand up and fight against the military
All I expect from our musicians against our Democratic leaders is victory
