FOR GOD'S SAKE,BAN BBN
By: Ayoola Imran
Nigeria is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society. None of my fellow Nigerians will dispute with me that neither our cultures nor our religion promotes immorality. The fundamental morals and discipline passed to us by our ancestors shows how we preserve and regard our moral-cultural heritage.
The Big Brother Naija (BBN) is a channel on the DSTV and Nigeria airwaves which contents promotes homosexual relationship to the viewers. This ungodly channel might cause calamity and catastrophe to our society apart from the economic recession we're yet to recover from its.
The last administration of our ex-president, Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, out-rightly rejected and banned the homosexual relationship and enacted strict laws and penalties to whosoever found engage in that illicit affairs. I gave kudos to Dr. Jonathan for his efforts in handling such sensitive issue. Back to the Glorious Quran, we were told about the story of the people of Lut (Lot), who dwelt in the town of Sodom in Palestine, who were well-known of committing sodomy. Prophet Lut warned his people from such grave crime and urged them to marry females whom Allah has created for them to be their wives. His call fell on a deaf ears. However, they issued a threat of driving him out of their towns. Eventually, Allah the most High, turned down (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down, and rained on them stones of Sijjil (baked clay), in a well-arranged manner one after the other.
Some of the naive Public Commentators suggested that BBN's show would improve our revenue and make the economy stable. No, to that myopic view. We can't boost our economy with ill-gotten funds that would in turn incur the wrath of God upon us. Therefore, the BBN will corrupts the youths' mind and their moral especially the teenagers if proper measures is not put in place.
As a matter of urgency, our religious clerics, Imams and Pastors, should act quickly by nipping BBN into bud through their respective non-violent preaching. The media suppose to transmit indigenous cultures, morals and values that would move the country forward not ungodly affairs that will jeopardize both the youths and the society. I gave kudos to the member of the House of Representatives from Ogun State, Hon. Segun Adekoya, who has called for the removal of the 'Big Brother Naija' reality TV show from Nigerian airwaves. His motion is still pending in the House, hopefully its debate will commence soon.
The evil BBN should be banned. I implore the Minister of Information and Culture to set up a strong committee that will be in charge of censoring both foreign and local movies before it would be released to the populace. The National Broadcasting Commission are not left behind, they should probe the BBN and wage war against them.
