THE BIRTH OF DEMOCRACY IN KADUNA STATE, A CASE OF SAMAILA SULAIMAN
The new trend in Nigerian politics has brought about a
new wind of change with political office holders trying to justify what they
were doing to uplift the standard of living of the people. This could be
described as what gave birth to the term, ‘democratic dividends’. In some
cases, the ‘democratic dividends’ were a mere mockery of what the electorates,
the generality of the people, really deserve to make their lives better.
More laughable is the extent some of these political
office holders go to attract attention or publicity to what they are doing for
the people.
In contrast, Hon. Mal Samaila Sulaiman a member
representing Kaduna North is delivering on his electoral promises with little
efforts towards publicizing what he is doing. His works speak for him, even
critics who had access to the media have started using the word, ‘he tried but
…’.
In all sectors, Samaila Sulaiman has recorded
successes and unlike some political office holders, who bring big names to
commission projects, he has shown that his interest is in how his
programmes are turning the lives of the people around positively and not about
the glitz that commissioning of projects attracts in Nigeria.
He recently gave out transformers, projects his
administration has executed in the constituency without much publicity but with
the sole interest of what such projects will do in the lives of the people. He
is simply not out to impress people but to carry out his functions as the
member representing KADUNA NORTH, to the best of his ability and to the glory
of God.
During a house interactive sitting a while ago, Hon.
Samaila Suleiman proposed a bill for the control of gully erosion in his
constituency, he proved to his constituents on the floor of the house that his
administration care so much in the education sector because of his belief that
“education is the key". Without an educated society, you cannot have
development. So, he has concentrated on education not just power between power
and education, he shows to be having a comprehensive human capital development
programme for this constituency at large.
He is simply bringing in a new development in the
Nigerian democratic scene where elected office holders will execute projects
because such projects will be of benefit to the people not because of personal
reasons, especially, receiving accolades for functions which you were naturally
elected to perform.
That he is a man of God is obvious with his mien
towards the projects he has executed because, it simply means that the glory goes
to God. Naturally, his constituency are praying for him knowing that in
practical terms, he has delivered on his mandate but, unlike a typical Nigerian
politician that believes in propaganda, his achievements speak for him and this
may definitely, spur other political office holders to be more focused in
changing the lives of the people positively than engaging in massive publicity
for delivering on their electoral promises which the people rightly deserve.
Samaila Sulaiman is a silent achiever who strongly
believes that the finger of God is at work in the constituency and of course,
in every situation, he attributes his achievements to the grace of God. With
his strong belief in God and dedication to serving the people, some of the
projects he has executed are already in use by the people without commissioning
because of the need for such projects by the people.
Kaduna North are indeed lucky to have you
