Stop Calling Yourselves Prophets, Pastors Cautioned
The popular critic, Akunna Akunna Jr, has cautioned pastors not to address themselves as Prophets, claiming that any human being who calls himself a prophet in divine sense is a great liar. Akunna explained to The Media, that the caution was as a result of his recent arguments with a pastor. “Those pastors should be cautious of that word”.
According to him, “any human being who calls
himself a prophet in divine sense is a great liar. But as a linguist, I can
only understand that language in the literal sense, because I can call anybody
so if the circumstances call for it, but not to ascribe divinity to that 'word'
when it comes to religion. But I can ascribe divinity to certain extraordinary
feats and breakthroughs and accomplishments of anyone amongst we mere mortals,
because such achievement(s) come(s) from the Divine One”.
“Anyone who claims to possess such equates
him/herself with the Divine One. And can you believe that? During a dialogue
with a pastor, having questioned him why he called himself so, I was amazed at
his response. During our dialogue many people got convinced”, He added.
Akunna further clarified that “prophets of God aren't mere humans as we think, even though God raised them from here planet earth. Look, many times, as human beings, the consequences of the decisions we take manifest later, be it good or bad. If it is good, we are happy; if it is bad, we make amends. But it is not so with the prophets or messengers of God, who cannot be wrong, and of which no one can point any errors or weaknesses in their words and deeds. That is because prophets are divinely guided and are infallible. But human beings are fallible and without the knowledge of the unseen. That is why when it is obvious that we have taken the wrong decision(s), we try to righten or ameliorate those decisions taken and even apologise. That is because of the limited span of our knowledge”.
“But prophets of God are not so; they do not amend anything of theirs. Prophets of God see the future right from their own time, but human beings only speculate the future, mostly scientifically and many at times proven wrong”, he concluded.
